Tuesday Morning Post: Good night, sweet corgi edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. This week has had its share of silence, for sure. I'm not sure if the folks at Blizzard's just enjoying the last bit of the holidays or secretly playing that other game, but either way, they didn't have much to say this week. That's not say there wasn't activity and stuff to discuss, not at all. The Darkmoon Faire's back in town, for one, and we've all been looking back at some of the best and worst stuff to come out of 2011. This is also the week we had to say goodbye to that freaking sweet corgi in the picture above. We can only pray Blizzard gives him back to us a pet some time in the future. If they do not, it shall surely go down in the annals of history as one of the greatest MMO tragedies of all time.

Downtime this morning is a series of rolling restarts starting at 10 a.m. PST, so you should have time to dig in to all the retrospectives and guides we have ready for you. Read on for the usual roundup.

Known issues from the Darkmoon Faire

The newly revamped Darkmoon Faire returned yesterday for its monthly one-week engagement in Azeroth, but it wasn't a flawless return. Players working on the Darkmoon Defender, Darkmoon Dungeoneer, or Darkmoon Despoiler achievements may have noticed the tally of items turned in has been reset, with few exceptions. Players have also been reporting that these monthly quest turn-ins, which should be resetting, are not, leaving players with dungeon-acquired items that cannot be turned in for another set of tickets. If this has happened to you, don't panic -- Community Manager Kaivax has chimed in on the issue, and although no fix has been put into place yet, Blizzard is aware of the issue and working on a fix.

Kaivax
We are aware of issues affecting the Darkmoon Faire, which began again today, particularly regarding monthly quests and some related achievements.

Our teams are investigating the issue and would like to assure you that we are working hard to solve the issue.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing.

Tuesday Morning Post: Vacation’s over edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone! Hopefully everyone has successfully roused themselves from their holiday food comas and dug themselves out of piles of wrapping paper. For most of us, today probably marks a return to the good old-fashioned work grind, but hey. We still have a few more days of Winter Veil, and think of it this way: Now that the holidays are over, we can go back to focusing on the important stuff, like figuring out when Mists of Pandaria's going into beta.

Downtime this morning is limited to a series of rolling restarts at 10 a.m. PST, but hey, you should still have time to get caught up on the news from the past few days. Don't let the holiday season fool you -- there was a lot of it. Read on to catch up.

Tuesday Morning Post: On the first day of Winter Veil edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everybody, and a very merry Winter Veil. Hopefully you've been celebrating, either by entering our 12 Days of Winter Veil contests or by going for in-game achievements. Then again, maybe you just don't care for that stuff and want to keep doing what you normally do -- and hey, that's cool too.

No matter how you celebrate, you'll have to take a short break this morning as Blizzard applies rolling restarts to the servers starting at 10 a.m. PST. Don't worry though, we got lots of stuff for you to read while you wait. Read on after the break for our usual roundup of the last week's content, including some awesome Warcraft gift ideas for you last-minute shoppers.

Tuesday Morning Post: Kiss From a Rose edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. I would just like to make it known that I agree with Sacco. In fact, just to show solidarity, above please find the most awesome karaoke rendition of the song yet distributed via mass media.

As far as WoW news goes, the post-patch 4.3 world has been, as expected, a bit tumultuous. Paragon was sorry they cheated by exploiting the Raid Finder, but Blizzard handed down some hefty bans anyway. Still, don't let all that drama that dampen your spirits. Patch 4.3 is pretty awesome, and Blizzard's even offering some sweet deals if you want to buy it for a friend or get yourself a second (or even first) account. It's a great Christmas gift idea, right?

Maintenance this morning is short, from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. PST, but there's plenty of stuff to catch up on, from hotfixes to raid boss guides. Read on after the break for a full roundup.

Patch 4.3 hotfixes for Dec. 12, 2011

A big batch of new hotfixes has just been released for patch 4.3. Some of the more notable ones include:
  • The Mass Regeneration effect from the druid tier 13 bonus now heals 25% of the healing received by the druid from Frenzied Regeneration, down from 50%. The tooltip will be updated in a later patch.
  • Damage done by Forgotten Ones, Void Bolt AoE, and Searing Blood has been reduced on 25-person heroic difficulty.
  • Yor'sahj's health has been reduced by 10% on 25 person heroic difficulty.
  • The health pools for Burning Tendon, Corrupted Blood, Corruption, and Hideous Amalgamation have been reduced by 6% to 11% for 25-person raids on both normal and heroic difficulty.
  • Damage done by Deathwing's Elementium Blast, Corrupted Blood, and Blistering Heat have been lowered on Raid Finder difficulty.
Blizzard makes it clear on Twitter that several of the raid hotfixes will not be active until after tomorrow's realm maintenance. So don't expect to see them if you're currently engaged in the encounters.

The full list after the break.

Battle.net Balance funds World of Warcraft game time

We already knew that real money would play a role in Diablo III, but we didn't have a great deal of official word. Now, Blizzard has released a FAQ about the Battle.net Balance providing a much deeper look at the upcoming system.

Essentially, you have a Battle.net Balance made up of points. Adding value to your Battle.net Balance is executed through charging up. You can charge up your Battle.net Balance using debit or credit cards, or sales from Diablo III auctions. Be aware, though, that you can't convert Battle.net Balance back into cash; once you put money there, it stays there. (There is an exception in some regions using PayPal, but details are scarce on that right now.)

Some of the Battle.net details are a little fuzzy right now because Blizzard is forced to deal with a lot of regional-specific laws. For example, in some regions, it'll have to empty value from a Battle.net Balance that hasn't been accessed in three years. Which regions? We don't know yet.

The most exciting bit of this news, however, is that you'll be able to purchase World of Warcraft prepaid game time using your Battle.net Balance. So if you're pretty good at the Diablo III Auction House, you might be able to kiss your subscription fee goodbye.

Ghostcrawler on the philosophy behind the Mists of Pandaria talent trees

Greg Street, aka Ghostcrawler (the lead systems designer), has posted some comments today dealing with the philosophy behind the talent system changes in Mists of Pandaria. He makes note that Blizzard's been getting a lot of feedback on these changes and that it wants more. (And he's serious, too -- the devs all do listen to what the community is saying.)

Some of the more interesting points include that the new system really is giving us fewer choices overall but making sure that the choices we have actually matter. This has been a fundamental shift that Blizzard has been moving toward for the past few years, away from the cookie-cutter builds and non-choice choices. Greg even goes as far to say, "Look, we tried the talent tree model for seven years. We think it's fundamentally flawed and unfixable."

That's a pretty huge thing for Blizzard to admit; kudos to Blizzard for realizing this and talking openly about it.

The full post after the break.

Guide to the new Darkmoon Faire

The new version of the Darkmoon Faire went live on Sunday, Dec. 4, and it'll run until the very end of this Saturday, Dec. 10. Like many of you, I was curious about all the new stuff on offer but had some trouble keeping it all straight, especially because Blizzard recently clarified a few mechanics in addition to tinkering with some items. There's also an unfortunate bug related to characters who did a previous version of the breadcrumb quest getting you to the Faire, which didn't help matters, as my main is one of the toons affected and was left scratching her head over what she was supposed to be doing.

If you're as confused as I was, I hope the information past the cut is helpful. How long will it take you get all the pets and mounts? How do you cheese Blastenheimer Bullseye? And how the hell did Corki manage to get himself captured by a bunch of carnies?

I'm lying about that last bit. I have no idea why Corki's part of the zoo, and I have no intention of springing him again. Ever.
